Last night at dinner, as often is the case with Americans, our conversation turned to Lindsay Lohan. After the usual talk about her boobs, their size fluctuations, her relationship with the paparazzi and the sheer volume of her talent, the subject turned to the pronunciation of her last name. Since hearing her say it that way, I have always pronounced it “lowen”, but the general public seems confused when I do that. Everyone seems to think it should be “low-han” like it is spelled, and we can’t all be right. To rectify the situation I just did a quick google search* which found her bio on her official site (stupid domain name) and it had this to say:

Her family’s last name is pronounced “low-han” but, when speaking quickly, they tend to say “lowen”.

So I guess we can all be right.


* My search query was for “lindsay lohan name pronunciation”, but as I typed it, Google Suggest helpfully showed me the most popular google searches, which I thoughtfully took a snapshot of to post here.

As you can see I had actually gotten through “lindsay lohan n” when it popped up the Google Suggest queries pictured there. Thanks google!
