Lemonade Stand Merger
Kids’ lemonade stand dispute resolved in ‘corporate merger’
SALEM, Mass. (AP) _ A lemonade merger has settled a dispute between two boys hawking the beverage and a rival vendor in Salem, Massachusetts. The boys, who are nine and eleven, will now sell their refreshing ade as subcontractors under the vendor’s license.
The dispute started after the vendor’s employee reported the boys to police last weekend, saying the stand was affecting their sausage stand business, which also sells lemonade. Police then shut down the boys’ stand because they didn’t have a vendor’s license.
The sausage stand employee said he’s endured his share of icy stares since the incident.
The deal was brokered by the mayor, who calls the arrangement “a corporate merger.” The arrangement expires when school starts.
I think it is pretty lame for the stand to have the kids shut down, but they were vending without a license. The law is pretty clear about that and just because it’s a couple of kids breaking it, doesn’t mean it shouldn’t be enforced. Because of the “merger” the kids now have a license and are able to continue learning about running a business. Kudos to you Sausage Stand Owner. Sausage Stand Employee? Shame on you.
