Today was another mostly talk radio day, so I got to hear all the ludicrous news stories. This one actually seems to exist, unlike most of the odd stuff I’ve heard in the past, including the “Pope lip-syncing” entry I made a few weeks ago.
Phillip Morris, our wonderful maker of Budweiser beer and Kraft macaroni and cheese, recently paid for a study to research possible links between second hand smoke and Sudden Infant Death Syndrome (or, SIDS) to help alleviate people’s fears of smoking.
Here’s the bit that gets interesting:
The analysis by [The University of California San Fransisco] and the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention found that executives at Philip Morris International hired a consultant to write a scientific article on the causes of SIDS and persuaded him to change his original conclusions.
Oh yeh, I almost forgot – a lesser known industry Phillip Morris dabbles in is the tobacco industry, how silly of me to forget.
